1

Trying to Change Your Significant Other

In my opinion, one of the most common mistakes in relationships people make is the fact that they’re trying to change their partner to better suit their needs. They also think that this will make their loved one happier because they actually think they’re doing their partner a favor by requesting them to change. Well, if you often tend to think in such a way, then I must remind you that we are all unique individuals and that the reason you’ve fallen in love with your significant other is precisely the fact that he or she is exactly the opposite of you. Try to remind yourself why do you love this wonderful person next to you so much and your desire to change them will magically disappear.

2

Losing the Romance

Every relationship requires a lot of hard work. Things change and even though it’s easier to become complacent, you shouldn’t slack on making an effort for romance. Losing the romance is actually one of the main reasons why most breakups occur, and that’s why you should pay extra attention to this aspect, so that your relationship won’t lose its balance. Romance is the most obvious expression of the love you two share, so don’t let things like stress or exhaustion prevent you from enjoying your time spent together or from showing your love for each other.

3

Lack of Communication

Communication is the only way you two will know each other better. A good communication will allow you to understand why your partner behaves in a certain manner and it’s also the perfect way to convey the love and the passion you two have for each other. Always work on improving your communication skills and never underestimate the importance of a good communication. No one can read minds, so the best way to keep your relationship happy and healthy is by never neglecting the role of this important aspect in your lives.

4

Fighting about Everything

Fighting is another very destructive behavior that can unbalance your relationship; in time, it can even seriously affect your happiness. Every couple fights, it’s only natural since we are all unique individuals, but every time you two have to deal with a conflict, try to solve it and then simply move on. Don’t let unfinished arguments interfere with your happiness and also, don’t fight over small things!

5

Keeping Secrets from Your Partner

In order for your relationship to work, you need to be completely honest with each other. Remember: you are a team, and you shouldn’t let anything break you apart! Most people commit this mistake and they keep secrets from their partners because they don’t want to hurt their loved one's feelings or because they think that lying is the best way to protect themselves. Learn to trust your significant other and don’t hide anything from him or her, no matter how scary you think that thing is!

We Have Unrealistically High Expectations

You should always remember that no one is perfect and neither are you. Try not to have unrealistically high expectations about your partner because we are all humans and we all make mistakes sometimes. If you strive for perfection every day, you shouldn’t ask your loved one to do the same. If you really love them, you’ll accept them the way they are without trying to change or control them.

Believing It’s Your Partner’s Job to Make You Happy

Well, you are responsible for your own happiness and you shouldn’t expect your partner to do that for you. This is one of the mistakes most people do in their relationship and they don’t even realize that in fact, they are only sabotaging their relationships and their happiness. Your partner’s job is not meeting all your needs because some of your demands might be impossible to fulfill. Learn to make yourself happy and your relationship will benefit as well. You must learn first how to be happy with yourself in order for someone else to make you happy.

Everybody makes mistakes in their relationships but there are some mistakes that actually have more dire consequences than others. You should watch out for those big ones that can really ruin your relationship, so you don’t let them interfere with your happiness. Have you made any mistakes in your relationship? What’s the relationship mistake you regret doing the most? Do you think you could have avoided it? Please tell us about it, so we can all learn from your experience!

Trying to deleted my account.

I think I have experienced each one. Some on a very lo level others, well let's just say I'm familiar with all 7. However, before my husband passed in the summer of 2007, we had been married for 26 yrs. So, I guess I was doing something right. I miss him like crazy & have no interest in dating or finding another man. No way anyone could match his wonderful ways & the way we loved each other.

Does anybody know how to deleted comment?

Yeah my ex and I were together for a few months. It was a LDR and well, he was acting so strange I made the mistake of lying to him because I was scared of him. He would say something making assumptions and I get mad and then we both had multiple fights. I showed a lot of faith in him but things just didn't work out.

My ex boyfriend we had argument over small thing. On the New Years we had a plain but he decide to cancel. And bring another girl along and go he's friends house. That I didn't know who she was on the next day morning he drop me off first and he drop he off. I got mad and text him tell him don't call me over again cause I was pissed off . Then later I told him why I was pissed off for then we talked then he said leave me alone. Don't know if I should text him and say we should work things out since we fighting over small argument.!! Need help..

I'll admit that I can be secretive in my current relationship (which is falling apart) but something he does and strongly believes is that I am 110% responsible for his happiness. Essentially when he's unhappy, I've failed and I can't deal with that for much longer. On the bright side, before things started to plummet, we were very good with communication.

@banesa.. Thanks but before I was trying to text him he said leave me alone. I'm trying to text him to say I think we should work things out cause we fighting over little things. But I guess it's too late.

@Mumina Zaheer, I suggest you approach him by bringing up the subject first since I'm assuming you still want the relationship to work and it's best to be the bigger person, as in mature, and resolve the conflict. Communication is essential to keeping a healthy relationship. Best of luck!
