If you really don’t want to be friends with benefits, you don’t have to. Just tell him that it’s a relationship (or dating at least) or friendship, it can’t be a mixture of both. If you aren’t into him anymore, maybe just tell him. That way, he’ll know that you just want to be friends (if you still want to be his friend of course!) and that there is no hard feelings about not jumping into a relationship.
