10 Things to Remember when You're Starting a New Relationship ...

In the start of a new relationship, you want to come baggage free. If you have a lingering ex, or a booty call that just isn’t getting the hint, it’s time to say goodbye. You don’t want your new relationship to be tainted with anything negative from your past.

Many people don’t realize how important it is to be friends with your beau. Get to know each other. Talk about your day. Identify what both of your career goals are and what you want to accomplish in life. Share what you’re passionate about. If you want to have a solid and strong relationship, invest in each other.

I know, most people rush into having sex. When you’re in a new relationship, keep in mind that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. You have tons of time to be intimate, so let it happen when it’s right. The sex will be that much better when you really get to know each other.

Maintaining your own life is key. Spending every second together is only cool when you’re a teenager. When you’re a grown up, you have a job, friends, and responsibilities. Just because you’re dating, you don’t own each other. You don’t want to be clingy or not give each other space. Plan a weekly night out with your friends. Have a «me» night every so often. Don’t lose sight of your identity.

Let your hair down, figuratively and literally. Be true to yourself. Let your partner see the real you. If you’re a little intense, that’s okay. If you’re sometimes shy and awkward, embrace it. He’s going to have to like you for who you really are.

Find a sport or hobby that you both enjoy and do it as often as your schedule permits. Exercising, cooking together, reading the Sunday times... whatever it is, as long as you’re doing it together, you’re making your relationship a priority.

Don’t pressure yourselves to surpass relationship milestones. Everyone wants to meet each other’s parents, take a romantic vacation, and hear their significant other say I love you. Know in your heart that it will happen one day, when the time is right. It shouldn’t be a burden on the relationship.

Texting is super easy. I know, I do it a hundred times each day. When you’re doing a million things at once, it’s an easy way to communicate. But, it shouldn’t be used to have real conversations. If you need to discuss anything important, make sure to wait until you’re face-to-face with your man. Quite often texting can be misinterpreted and create unnecessary problems.

Men aren’t mind readers. They don’t know what you’re thinking unless you tell them. If you’re always communicative, you’re less likely to get into fights. Share whatever is on your mind. Be as open and honest as you can.

Every relationship is unique. Don’t compare your relationship (or your man!) to anyone else’s. Everyone moves at their own pace. Enjoy getting to know each other, without the pressure of what’s to come.
