No Hate First

The basis of most rom-com relationships is in the fact that the two lovers start off by hating each other, only to work out their differences and come to fall for one another in the end. This really doesn’t happen that often! If you don’t strike an immediate connection with someone in real life, then chances are you are going to move on in the blink of an eye. Life is too short to be spending time and effort on somebody who you don’t even like to begin with! That's one of the biggest truths about love you won't find in romcoms.

2

No Career Quitting

How often to do you see in the movies that either you or your partner has to quit their job or their passion in order to be with you? No, not in real life. In real life, it is perfectly achievable to have a great job and a great relationship. You don’t have to pick one over the other in a dramatic fashion!

3

No Personality Transplant

When you meet someone who you click with in real life, it never requires you or them to undergo a total personality transplant. If you are changing your entire persona in order to try to attract someone, then you aren’t supposed to be with them in the first place. The true joy of finding real love is that you can be your true self!

4

Not Always a ‘Moment’

In all rom-coms, there is a defining moment that tells us as an audience that love has finally blossomed between the characters, but in reality, it might not be so dramatic or exciting. In most cases, you will find that a deep and lasting love just creeps up on you without announcing itself in a memorable fashion, and that’s just as wonderful as a big declaration or light bulb moment!

5

No BFF Lover

There are millions of movies where best friends fall in love, but this is actually super rare in real life! You will know yourself that once you go past that friendship experience with a person, it’s very hard to translate that into romance. It’s a completely different feeling!

No Test

The main plots of rom-coms usually involve some sort of testing of the love that has blossomed, a big decision that has to be made which will determine the future of the relationship. There is rarely such a big dramatic moment in real life because you are usually doing everything you possibly can in order for there not to have to be a big decision made or proof of love required!
