1

Cut off Contact

One of the best ways to keep your mind off a breakup is to avoid any contact with your ex. Calling, texting, emailing or checking for updates on social media outlets isn’t likely going to change anything, and holding on to the hope that there could possibly be a reconciliation won’t allow you to live your life and move forward. Don’t tempt or torture yourself by trying to keep in contact with your ex. It’ll only make recovery harder and it’ll make artificially idealizing your ex and the relationship easier.

2

Exercise

Another one of the best ways to keep your mind off a breakup is to exercise and burn off some negative energy. I know a workout is the last thing on your mind right now, but exercise does your mind and body a world of good. Exercise will help your work out your anger and frustrations, it can help boost your self-esteem, releases endorphins (AKA happy chemicals) and help relieve anxiety.

3

Talk It out

Getting over a breakup is hard enough, so don’t keep your feelings all bottled up! Talk to a close friend or family member about your thoughts and feelings. Even if you feel like no one understands you or your situation, we’ve all experienced loss in our lives and will be able to relate on some level. Getting another person’s perspective can also help you see things in a better light.

4

Get Rid of Reminders

Another way to keep your mind off your ex is to get rid of any reminders of your past relationship. Keeping letters, gifts and photos might seem like a good idea at first, but they’re only going to make it harder to move on. Breakups usually happen for a reason and you don’t want constant reminders of your ex bringing you down. Throw your reminders out in whatever way you see fit. Just don’t keep them in the depths of your closet where you have easy access to them.

5

Get out

Get out there and enjoy life! Get your friends or family together and do something fun for a change. You’ve probably spent too many nights holed up in your house, it’s time to experience a change of scenery. Pick an activity that you enjoyed pre-coupledom and let loose. Leave your troubles at home and enjoy time with the people you love.

Famous Quotes

To give oneself earnestly to the duties due to men, and, while respecting spiritual beings, to keep aloof from them, may be called wisdom.

6

Treat Yourself

When you’re going through a breakup, many of us spend too much time reminiscing about the past and thinking about our ex. Why not take this time to focus on yourself? Don’t forget that you had your own unique identity before you became part of a couple. Do nice things for yourself like getting a massage or pedicure.

7

Take a Trip

One of the surefire ways to keep your mind off of your ex is to go for a change of scenery. Take a day, weekend or even a week off and go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. There’s nothing like getting out and exploring a new place and people to help you get your mind off of things. It’s also a great way to reconnect with friends or meet new people.

8

Get Back into Your Hobbies

What was your life like before your relationship? Were you an avid crafter, sports junkie or bookworm? When we get in a relationship we often start doing things as a couple and our own hobbies get pushed on to the backburner. Get back into what you love to do whether it’s collecting lipsticks, rock climbing or watching Dr. Who until the crack of dawn.

9

Shop

Make getting over a breakup a little easier by taking yourself shopping. Even if you’re short on funds and are more of a looker than a shopper, go shopping anyway. Window shop to get some inspiration for your next outfit. If you have the extra funds, why not splurge on something nice for yourself? You spent your money on your ex before; there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself now!

10

Avoid Drinking

There’s nothing wrong with having some drinks with friends but avoid drinking in order to help you forget about your ex. Drinking excessively can lead to trouble like drunk texting or having crazy confrontations with people and you don’t need that drama in your life. Drinking won’t help get rid of the pain you’re feeling and it won’t fix anything.

11

Learn about Yourself

As painful as it might be in the beginning, remember that you can learn something about yourself through this breakup. You can grow from this experience and take whatever mistakes or anything you gained from this relationship on to other areas of your life. Use the breakup as an opportunity to better yourself and reconnect with yourself emotionally instead of put yourself down.

Going through a breakup is no doubt one of the hardest things to go through in life but you will get through it. Although things might look very bleak at the moment, you will be happy again. Use your time and energy to focus on your happiness and look forward. Do you have any suggestions on ways to keep your mind off of a breakup?
