What "I do" Really Means ...

By Holly

Marriage is a special commitment that should be taken seriously. It's not something that you should carelessly jump into for the hell of it. You should only take the leap if you're deeply in love with your partner and believe that you two can last a lifetime together. If you think that you and your partner have what it takes to become an old married couple, then you should remember that this is what "I do" really means:

1

You’ll Be Faithful

When you say your vows in front of your family and friends, you're basically pledging your loyalty to your partner. While it would've been wrong for you to cheat on your partner while you were dating, at least you could've left them for that other person if you felt the need. However, if you agree to marry someone, you're giving up your right to leave them for someone else. Sure, divorce is always an option, but it's much more difficult to leave someone once you're married--and it's much more hurtful, too.

2

You’ll Be the Best Partner You Can Be

You don't have to alter your entire personality for your partner. However, you should strive to be the best person you can be in order to make them happy. Even if you're not the best at communicating, you'll try your best to let them know what's on your mind. Even if you're not great at cooking, you'll still make them meals every so often. You'll do whatever it takes to make them smile, because their happiness gives you happiness.

3

You’ll Work through Fights

You can't walk away from your marriage after one fight. You need to find ways to compromise, so that you're both content after arguments. It's impossible to avoid fighting when you're married, but it's entirely possible to solve your issues once they arrive.

4

You’ll Share Everything You Have

When you agree to marry someone, you're agreeing to share every part of your life with them. You're going to pool your money together. You're going to live in the same house and share the same bed. What's his is yours and what's yours is his.

5

You’ll Love Their Family like Your Own Family

It doesn't matter if you despise your mother-in-law, because she's family now. Once you're married, your partner's parents will expect you to show up at family events. You won't be able to get out of them, because your partner's family is now your family, too.

Famous Quotes

Meaning is not what you start with but what you end up with.

You’ll Comfort Them

You can't always protect your partner from the bad things in life. If someone they love dies or if they lose their job, you can't expect to make everything better, but you do have to comfort them. As long as you're there for them, through thick and thin, they'll be appreciative of you.

7

You'll Support Them

When you're married, you need to support your partner, even when they make the wrong decision. If your partner wants to quit their job, you should sit down with them and discuss all of their possible moves. However, at the end of the day, you need to support whatever they decide to do. They need to know that you're still on the same team.

Marriage is a huge step that you shouldn't take unless you're entirely ready for all that it entails. Do you plan on getting married one day?

So true. Its beautiful when a relationship is like this.

Who's the designer of the dress used on the cover?

Why is the whole tone of this article sounds so depressing. It's true that marriage ain't always sunshine and sparkle, but with love and support, things listed should never be issues one need to 'work very hard' to get through. Marriage is a commitment, but please don't make it sound so serious and scary.

It takes a quality person to make a lifelong commitment, in todays world people are only interested in their own selfish wants. A long 60 year marriage is very rare. To make a commitment like that, you must be able to forgive, laugh and respect no matter how many mistakes the other person makes. To always see the best in the other person, people just don't do that in todays society

This is all true things about getting married or is also when you are in serious commitment the same is true

You need specific social emotional skills to make a marriage last
