Are you having enough sex? For most people, as soon as they hit puberty, sex is something that becomes a permanent topic of conversation between friends. Whether you are single, married or at any stage in between, you can’t help but wonder what your sex life is like compared to those around you, and this can lead to a lot of insecurities about how much you should be having, when you should be having it, and who you should be having it with!
Quite simply, there is no right way or wrong way, no right number of times or how often, nor any rules for how long it should last when it comes to your sex life. Do what’s right for you. Sometimes, however, the unrealistic depictions of sex and relationships that we see on TV can give us pause with regards to our own personal relationships. At the end of the day though, there are the only three things that will tell you if you are you having enough sex.
1. Are You Satisfied with the Amount?
You'll know you are you having enough sex if you are satisfied. If you are personally happy and satisfied with the amount of sex that you are having, then what exactly is the problem? A sex life isn’t like drinking water - there are no government and health board guidelines and recommendations about how often you should be doing it. It’s all about what feels good and manageable to you. Some couples have sex every single day, some couples have sex once a week and some couples only have sex a couple of times a month. As long as you are satisfied with the regularity of your intimacy, then you shouldn’t be worried about comparing yourself to others.
2. Is Your Partner Satisfied with the Amount?
Of course, sex is not a solo game, and you always have to take into account the needs and desires of your partner as well as your own. If both you and your partner are on the same wavelength when it comes to the amount of sex you are having, then there is absolutely nothing you need to worry about. If both of you are content to be intimate together twice a week, but your best friends get busy every single day, there is no need to overthink it. The fact of the matter is that some people have higher sex drives, so as long as you both are content with your amount, everything is fine.
3. Worried about Low Sex Drive?
There might be a different issue, however, if you actually want to have more sex but your body isn’t cooperating with your desires. Not being able to perform physically even though the desire is there might be an indicator of an underlying health issue. It can point to anything from anxiety to depression to a more physical ailment that you have yet to have diagnosed, so don’t be embarrassed about visiting your doctor to discuss the issue. Take your partner with you if that helps.
