Have you ever noticed all the ways couples understand each other, even without speaking? It's a beautiful thing, but it might seem confusing to an outsider. Happy couples often seem to know what the other is thinking without saying a thing. Odds are, you've likely seen most of the ways couples understand each other. You might have even been lucky enough to experience them yourself.
1. Eyes Say It All
One of the most common ways couples understand each other without words is through eye contact. Remember that look your mom would give you that said “don't even think about doing something wrong”? It's kind of like that. Couples become so in tune with each other, all they have to do is make eye contact to know what the other is thinking. Watch a happy couple's eyes sometimes and you'll see what I mean.
2. Simple Gestures Mean More
Sometimes a simple hug or hand on the shoulder is all it takes for a couple to express their love or provide support in times of need. The couple understands each other enough to realize there are times when no words are needed. For instance, a long kiss after a bad day says “I love you and nothing else matters but you and me.” A hug translates into “I know you're not feeling great right now, but know that I'm here for you always.”
3. They Sacrifice
When you first jump into a new relationship, you usually have to ask each other to make sacrifices or compromises. The longer you're together, you both start making them without being asked. The reason – you already know what the other needs and how important it is to them. You're happy to make small sacrifices when necessary to make the other happy. These simple acts become second nature, but they're always appreciated.
4. Random Laughter
I know I'm guilty of this one. You and your partner are sitting around with friends and all it takes is a glance for you both to bust out laughing. Everyone else is confused, but the two of you just recognized an inside joke. Happy couples have numerous inside jokes and it's not unusual for them to just start laughing for seemingly no reason. It's cute once you know what's going on and it shows how easily couples know what's on the other's mind.
5. Help is Readily Given
This one should be true in any relationship, not just romantic ones. The strongest couples instantly recognize when their partner needs help, even if they don't ask for it. They also know how to help out without hurting their partner's ego. They love each other enough to want to help out with anything their partner needs. Imagine how wonderful it would be if your partner offered help without you having to ask or beg and plead.
6. Rescue Each Other
We all have certain situations we might not be comfortable with. For instance, I get extremely shy and even anxious when I'm around a group of people. My guy knows the signs and immediately puts his arm around me and steers the conversation to something he knows I'll be interested in, so I feel comfortable talking to those around me. This simple gesture of rescuing you without a single word is so sweet. It shows just how much a couple understands each other and how happy they are to help make each other more comfortable.
7. Body Language
The longer you're together, the easier it becomes to understand each other's body language. The moment you see your partner, you know how they feel or what they're thinking just by the way they're standing. For instance, my guy knows when I'm feeling insecure just by the way I sit. As long as you pay attention to each other, it's not hard to learn to read their body language.
Great relationships require communication, but it doesn't always have to be words. Couples communicate in numerous ways. Somehow it's hard not to believe in love when you see or experience some of these things in action. How do you understand your partner without them saying a word?
