Leave the Drama at Home

When you’re getting back into the dating scene after a breakup, it can be tempting to want to hash out the details, but refrain from doing so! Imagine if you were the other person. If you met someone casually and were just starting to get to know them, would you want to hear all about their breakup? It’s understandable that you’d want to vent, but leave that for your girlfriends. If you’re truly heartbroken and can’t stop yourself from talking about your ex, it’s probably too soon to start dating. Don’t rush! You’ll know when you’re ready to start dating again.

2

Freshen up

This tip might not apply to many of you hot ladies, but if you feel like you could use some freshening up, do it! Give yourself a new hair color, hair cut or invest in a few new pieces for your wardrobe. You don’t have to do any of these things but it’s a great way to feel better about yourself and feel more confident out there in the dating scene!

3

Take It Slow

If it’s been awhile since you’ve been out being social, start making plans with friends, family and co-workers to go out to restaurants, bars and lounges. Get back into the swing of things by getting used to being out and being social with the opposite sex. Go without any expectations and just have fun getting to know different people and chatting with them. If something comes of it, great. If not, you’re still getting your feet wet in the social scene!

4

Get Involved

One of the hardest parts of dating again is finding new, quality people. Maybe you come from a small town where everyone knows everyone or you just don’t know where to start. Consider joining a group or class in your community, getting a membership on an online dating site or joining a singles group with people in the same age group as you.

5

Be Safe

Once you meet someone you want to go out on a date with, make safety your priority! Always meet and have your date in a public place that you’re familiar with and make sure you tell others where you’re going to be and whom you’re meeting. Also, make sure you have some cash on hand in case of an emergency and make sure your cell phone is fully charged.

Be Choosy

No matter how long it’s been since you’ve dated, even if you feel like you need all the practice you can get, be picky! There is no reason you have to go out with every guy that shows interest and asks you out. Don’t go out on a date with anyone you feel obligated to go out with, feel sorry for or don’t really see anything happening with. Save your time and energy for someone you have things in common with and can see yourself dating.

7

Be Yourself

Perhaps the most important tip in starting to date again is to be you! Don’t feel like you have to be someone you’re not in order to attract someone. The real you will come out eventually and it’s exhausting to pretend to be someone you’re not or to like something you don’t. Stay true to your awesome self and a guy worthy of you will see it!

Dating is fun but it can be tricky, so don’t be discouraged if you find yourself meeting a lot of Mr. Wrongs on your search. Don’t put yourself on a timeline to meet someone or set unrealistic standards, let things happen and have fun! Do you have any tips on getting back into the dating scene?
