How to Survive a Summer Away from Your Man ...

By Alicia

It’s sad when you have to be away from your man all summer. But you can survive and so can your relationship! There are lots of things you can do to help yourself make it through the summer. Here are 7 of them.

1 Plan Lots of Fun Things for Yourself

Just 'cos your man’s away doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun. You can and you should! You’ll be happier and your summer will go by a lot faster when you’re having a good time. Make plans with your girlfriends or your family for all the traditional summer activities. Plan a summer vacation, barbeques, a fabulous 4th of July celebration and plenty of days by the pool!

2 Consider a Part-time Job

If you’re not in summer school or already working, consider getting a part-time job. It’s a great way to fill your days and put a little extra cash in your pocket. It can make your days off more fun too, when you have extra to spend at malls and spas! Think about where you’d like to work and start taking steps to get the job. It’s always good to have some back-up options, too.

3 Make Plans to Occasionally Meet up if Possible

This isn’t always possible. If your guy is backpacking across Europe or doing an internship on the other side of the world, then of course, it’s probably impossible. But if he’s only a few hours or a few states away then make plans to meet up when you can. Maybe you can go to him or vice versa. You could also arrange to meet at a fun location in the middle.

4 Make Use of Technology

There are so many options to stay connected through technology today. It’s easier to stay connected now than ever before. There’s email, texting, Snapchat, FaceTime, Skype and various types of social media. With all these methods of communication at your fingertips, the pain of being apart can be greatly reduced. You may even forget how far apart you really are.

5 Enjoy the Romance of Snail Mail

There’s something very special about receiving a card or letter in the mail, wouldn’t you agree? In fact, many people would say it can even make your day. It has a personal touch that technology can’t quite capture. You can add a little something special to the mail you’re sending your man by adding a lipstick kiss or a spritz of your perfume. It’s guaranteed to keep you close to his heart.

6 Count down the Time Apart

Counting down the time you’re going to be apart can help it be more bearable. Make a calendar and mark the days off as they go by. Each day is another day closer and builds your excitement for reuniting even more. You know that every day is a day closer to his homecoming.

7 Dream of the Fall Together

So you can’t be together for summer. It’s not ideal but it’s best to focus on the time you’ll have in the future rather than the time you’re missing out on. Dream of the fall together. Talk about all the things you want to enjoy during that season. Thinking ahead to bonfires and sharing hot cocoa on cool fall days can help you get through the time apart.
