7 New Rules of Dating You Need to Follow ...

Let me fill you in on a little something girls; we don’t need to be an expert on dating rules to be great at dating! I made the mistake for years of just thinking that I was bad at dating rules. It was hard for me to follow the “don’t call a guy” rule, though now, I sort of wished I had. I also thought I was bad at dating since I never really had a lot of dates. Finally, I realized that I wasn’t bad at dating; I was bad at following certain dating rules. You don’t need to be an expert on dating to be good at it, especially if you follow some of the most important dating rules today. I actually hate the word “rules” in the world of dating, so if you prefer, just refer to these as guidelines like I do! After all, dating should be fun, and a way to meet a fabulous potential mate. Just keep these 7 things in mind and you’ll be set to go!

1 Any Topics Are Game

We are often told one of the top dating rules is not to discuss controversial topics like religion, politics, children etc. However, now, those rules are out the window. If you can’t talk to a potential mate about things that are important to you, then the date will feel more like a professional interview than a personal get together. Forget about avoiding topics. If you’re a hard core Republican and say you would never marry a Democrat, it’s better to speak up now about it than two months later when election season kicks in!

Frequently asked questions

2 Forget about Waiting on Him to Call You

If you feel like talking to your date the night you get home from your amazing night out together, give him a call! Forget the old rules that say you should wait on them to call you. Call your date if you want to talk to them. It could even impress them that you’re not one to follow the old rules anyway, which will make you seem confident and mature. If you would rather wait on them to call you, no problem, but if you’re dying to tell them how great of a time you had, or let them know that you’d like to see them again, pick up the phone and let them know. Just don’t go overboard. Texting them and calling them to death is worse than not calling them at all!

3 Be Bold

If you feel like grabbing your date’s hand while you’re taking a nighttime stroll, feel free! Waiting on your date to make all the moves is so yesterday! While I don’t suggest moving too fast on the first date, I do think that a simple gesture like giving them a hug or grabbing their hand is perfectly fine for a first date basis! Be sure to read them well first to see if they seem into you, and then just go for it! After the first date, if they’re too shy to make the first move, feel free to proceed ahead with a peck on the cheek or more!

4 Loosen up

Girls, dates should not be treated like last Monday’s job interview, so don’t treat it like one! A date is a time to relax, enjoy someone else’s company, and genuinely just get to know another person. You’re not there to interrogate them, judge them, and you’re not there to be interrogated or judged either. If someone makes you feel like you are being judged and questioned to death, then your date could be nervous and just talk too much, or be too picky for your taste. Loosen things up by just having casual conversation, laughing together, and enjoying each other’s company.

5 Express Yourself Freely

If your date happens to offend you even before the appetizers arrive, or first round of drinks is served, be sure to let them know! You’re not there for any other reason besides to see if someone is a good fit for you. If you disagree with something your date says, or they hurt your feelings, tell them! You can defend yourself without being rude, and a good date will appreciate you for it, not get mad at you.

6 Know Your Limits

If you have certain dealbreakers when it comes to dates, such as if they drink too much, if they curse on a regular basis, stare at other women while they’re out with you, or wear white socks and black shoes if it is that simple, fine! We all have things we’re not willing to put up with when it comes to a mate. If you see a dealbreaker in your date, don’t feel guilty and feel free to move on, unless you’re genuinely attracted to them. If you’re not, then let them go nicely and move on in your mission to find someone else.

7 Be Yourself

This rule has always been a dating rule, but it is more important now than ever. If you can’t wear your hair the way you want, dress the way you want, say what you want, or express yourself the way you want, then dating is pointless!

Dating isn’t the easiest thing, but it can be incredibly fun and a great way to find someone fantastic who can enhance your life. Stop following all the old cliché dating rules and follow the new ones instead! Do you have certain dating rules you try to follow?
