Breaking up isn’t always everyone’s favorite topic, but there are usually a few signs it’s time to let go of a relationship that can come in handy when you’re trying to decide if it’s time to end things. Sometimes you don’t want to see it yourself, and sometimes you know the signs are there but don’t want to believe it. Maybe you’re going through this right now, or have in the past, but either way, you’ll probably find yourself relating to more than a few of these signs it’s time to let go of a relationship.
1. You’re Not Happy
One of the most important signs it’s time to let go of a relationship is if you’re not happy. In the end, your happiness should come first, unless there are children involved. If you’re not happy and can get out of the relationship without any strings attached, it’s best for you to do so!
2. You Don’t Want to Be around Your Significant Other
If it becomes more and more obvious that you’d rather spend time with your friends than with your significant other, it’s time to let go. Of course, space is good and necessary, but if it gets to the point where you truly do not want to be around that person, a break-up is imminent.
3. You Don’t Care about Your Future Together
Whether it’s just one of you who doesn’t care about your future together, or both, ignoring the future is a sure sign that you’ll be ending soon. Maybe you simply have different goals for your futures, and if they don’t line up it may be time to let go. It may seem like a petty reason to end things, but if you don’t see a future with someone, why are you wasting the present with them as well?
4. He’s Not Who You Thought He Was
People change. If your relationship changes into something you don’t want, it’s okay to let go. Maybe it was something as simple as realizing he’s not the person you thought he was when you met. No matter the circumstances, if there’s something about your relationship that’s changed, and not for the better, it’s time to let go.
5. There’s No Trust Anymore
If you can’t trust your significant other at all anymore, it is definitely time to let go of your relationship. What is the point of a relationship without trust? Either work on bringing that trust back into your relationship or let go of the relationship altogether. In the end, it comes down to how much work you’re willing to put in. If you want to gain that trust back, work for it. If not, end things.
6. It’s a One-Sided Relationship
That being said, if you’re the one putting all of the work into a relationship, end things. You don’t deserve to be in a one-sided relationship. One day you’ll find someone willing to put in just as much work as you, and for the mean time, you don’t deserve to waste your time on someone who doesn’t care.
7. You Just Know
In the end, it comes down to you. You will know when the relationship is over. You won’t need a list of reasons why, because you’ll feel it. You’ll have a gut feeling that it’s time to end things. It won’t be easy to end things, but it will be easy to know when it’s time.
