1. Butterflies

One of the first signs you’re dating “the one” is butterflies. More than fourteen years ago, when my now husband and I first started dating (hard to believe it has been that long!), one of the signs that indicated that he was the one for me were butterflies. Every time I saw him, spoke to him on the phone or thought of him, I would get serious butterflies. And guess what? More than fourteen years later (seven of which we have been married), I still get those butterflies.

2. You’re You!

Another sign that you’re dating “the one” is that you aren’t afraid to be yourself around the person. So many times, people hide the real them when they are dating someone. Maybe it’s a fear that the other person won’t like the real you? Maybe you feel the need to impress? If you are who you really are, you don’t have to hold back your ideas and opinions – and you’re BOTH comfortable with that – then there’s a good chance you’re dating “the one.”

3. You REALLY Enjoy Spending Time Together

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, you simply enjoy spending time together. You could be going to a Broadway show, taking a vacation together or simply sitting on the couch and watching TV; the activity you are doing together isn’t what really matters, it’s that you’re spending time together and you really enjoy it.

4. Appreciate Differences

Listen, not everyone has the same likes and dislikes, and that’s OK. The point is that you have to be willing to accept those differing likes and dislikes. If the person you are dating does this – and you do it for him or her – then you could very well be with the person who is meant for you.

5. Accepts Your Loved Ones

You have other people in your life who are important. If the person you are dating accepts those people, even if they don’t completely get along, then that’s a sign you have a keeper. You can’t very well be with someone who is constantly tearing your sister or your best friend apart.

6. Trust

This is a biggie. Trust is the foundation of a good relationship. If you trust the person you are dating, then you are on the right track to a good relationship. If you don’t have trust, you might as well toss the relationship right now.

7. Communication

In my book, communication is right up there next to trust, as far as vital qualities in a successful relationship. If you’re partner and you are open, honest and communicate what you are feeling and thinking well, then you are with a good one.

Dating and relationships can be difficult to figure out, especially when you are looking for your other half. If your relationship has the above qualities, then there is a very good sign that your future is quite promising together. Are you with a keeper? How did you know he or she was “the one”?
