First dates are super exciting but there are so many things that can go wrong, so it's sometimes wise to think about the ways to make a good impression on a first date. We've all heard about first date horror stories, but if you're prepared then there are ways to guarantee you'll have a fabulous time, even if it doesn't necessarily lead to a second date. So here are some ways to make a good impression on a first date.

1

Comfort

One of the ways to make a good impression on a first date is to wear something comfortable and attractive. In any situation, being comfortable is key and a first date is no exception. I'm not talking sweat pants and sneakers, unless the date requires that, of course! Just don't wear anything that will mean you're constantly pulling your garment up or down or anything where you're going to feel self conscious. Get advice from friends and family if you're really stuck.

2

Posture

Being aware of your posture is also important. Try not to slouch, as it can indicate disinterest. Standing tall, on the other hand, can make you instantly taller, shows that you're confident and is an attractive trait. It also makes you appear interested and alert. But you don't want to look like a meerkat, so don't go overboard with this one!

3

Compliments

Pay compliments to your date. Again, this needs to be done carefully as you don't want to seem overly keen or lecherous! I'm sure your date will have taken time to decide what to wear so try and come up with something more original than "I like your shirt/dress." Say something sincere and genuine.

4

Listen

Listen attentively to what they're saying. Eye contact is key, as is nodding and smiling. It sounds really obvious but these subtle body language clues will show you're listening. Again, don't hold their gaze for too long as this might make them feel a little uncomfortable! Also, when asking questions, try not to interrupt when they're talking.

5

Show Interest

Ask your date questions about what they do and what their interests are. Great things to talk about on a date include hobbies, family and travel destinations. This doesn't mean you have to turn into the riddler or make them feel as though they're sitting in a dark room with a light shining straight on them, but show genuine interest in what they do and their interests.

Enjoy It

No matter what, enjoy yourself. Smile and be happy. This is a very attractive trait so try to avoid talking about anything negative, like how much you hate your job and your boss. As tempting as it might be, avoid talking about how much you hate your ex partner and the fact that you're secretly wishing a freak tornado would wipe them off the face of the earth!

7

Good Manners

Always thank your date at the end of it. Remember the good manners your mama taught you! And be careful where alcohol is concerned. Yes, you might be a little nervous and fancy a drink but don't go overboard, as this will only end in tears and you'll most certainly end up doing something you'll later regret.

These are just a few ways to make a great impression on that all important first date. Can you think of anything else?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I understand where you both are coming from Suzi and iloveparis624, but the I think this is more of a guide then a rule book. Its just some steps for girls who are shy and don't really know what to do. Of course be yourself but I think this tips are super helpful for girls who have no clue what they are doing and just want to be more confident and approachable like myself :)

how about - be who you actually are- I am a happily married woman and I never worried or abided to any of these things. if you have to work that hard, perhaps it's not meant to be.

I agree with iloveparis624. If I was given this article prior to dating I would have freaked out. what about bring yourself. relationships in the beginning just happen when 2 people get together. if THAT doesn't happen let it go. relationship shouldn't be work day 1. just be you everyone else is taken:)
