My friends and I have discovered a new favourite playlist, consisting of the best songs to get over your ex. Don’t worry, we aren’t bitter (although I am writing this, alone, on Valentine’s Day – something that will never exactly breed contentment) – but we have all been through a rough time recently when it comes to the opposite sex. And so, there’s nothing better for boosting your confidence than getting ready to go out with a bottle of wine, your friends and a selection of the best songs to get over your ex bursting out as you go.

1. YOU DON’T IMPRESS ME MUCH
‘You don’t impress me much’ by Shania Twain has to be one of the best songs to get over your ex. Remember, did he really have the touch anyway? Her ‘Man! I feel like a woman’ is good too.
2. Since YOU’VE BEEN GONE
‘Since You’ve been gone’ by Kelly Clarkson – perfect for belting out the chorus.
3. BLOW ME ONE LAST KISS
Pink said a while ago that, out of her, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (they all got famous at similar times), everyone said at first that she was going to be the bad girl. She then said asked who are the troublemakers now? Pink is a great role model for young girls, and this song will have you feeling better in no time.
4. PART of ME
Katy Perry married Russell Brand and the whole world sat and waited for the inevitable news that he’d screwed her over. And he did – apparently filing for divorce just after Christmas without her knowing about it. ‘Part of Me’ was definitely her way of telling the world that she’d be happy again.

6. To the LEFT, to the LEFT
Beyonce is the undisputed queen of women power. Just stick ‘Irreplaceable’ on and dance like Beyonce. You’ll feel better in no time.
7. EGO
Normally, The Saturdays aren’t exactly known for their girl power songs. But ‘Ego’ is perfect for the playlist – you know, when a guy breaks up with you and suddenly he starts acting like the most arrogant guy in the world? That’s what this is about.
8. SURVIVOR
Back to Beyonce, but this time she’s got the rest of Destiny’s Child with her. And they’re all survivors!
9. YOU’RE so VAIN
Remember ‘You’re So Vain’ by Carly Simon? For all those guys who thought they were prettier than you.
10. CRY ME out
Cry Me Out by Pixie Lott talks about what we all secretly wish would happen – that guy we really liked realising what he’s missing, but only after its too late. That happens, right?
11. SMILE
Lily Allen’s ‘Smile’; this is one woman we can’t imagine taking any crap from anyone.
12. BEST THING I NEVER HAD
Finally, Beyonce gets one more track in this list – she is, after all, Queen B. Her song ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ is for women everywhere who deserve better.
I hope this list isn’t taken too seriously – obviously I realise it works both ways and men can be treated just as badly by women as vice versa. This is just a collection of songs to make us feel better when we’re feeling down; what songs do you play when you’re in need of a little girl power?
