1. Choose the Spot
If you're nervous and shy, and aren't into PDAs, then choose a more private location, like a pretty, quiet park instead of a busy mall.
Consider the time of day as well; an evening stroll under a canopy of stars can create a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a first kiss. If the weather allows, a sunset moment by a tranquil lake can be utterly enchanting. However, make sure the area isn’t too secluded, as safety should always be a priority. Trust your instincts—if a place feels right and you're both relaxed, the setting might just add a touch of magic to the moment. Remember, a comfortable environment will help ease some of that nervousness, letting you both enjoy the experience more fully.
2. Choose the Time
You don't want to rush your first kiss, so make sure you plan ahead so you'll have plenty of time to make your move.
Frequently asked questions
3. Get Minty
If you plan to kiss after a date, make sure you've got some minty gum to chew so you'll have fresh breath.
Having a fresh breath is critical for a good first impression when you're leaning in for that anticipated first kiss. Pop a piece of gum after your meal or before meeting up. Chewing gum not only freshens your breath but it can also help to calm your nerves. Avoid strong-flavored foods during the date, like garlic or onions, that can linger on the breath. Keep in mind to discreetly dispose of your gum before the moment arrives – you wouldn’t want to be caught off guard with nowhere to put your gum!
4. No Lip(gloss)!
Most guys don't want to kiss a girl wearing bright red lipstick, or sticky lip gloss, so on K-Day, stick to a lip balm (maybe one with a little flavor).
5. Get a Physical Feel
It's going to be awkward to lean in for a kiss if you haven't been close in his physical space, so before you kiss, spend a little time leaning closer.
6. Listen up!
Listen to his body language: if you're leaning in to share his space and he backs away and folds his arms across his chest, he's probably not interested in a kiss right now. Postpone!
7. Flirt a Little
Make the moment happen by flirting a little. If you're encouraging him, he might make the first move, and that's fine! Lean closer, lower your voice so he needs to lean in too, make eye contact then look away quickly. He'll get the message, and if he doesn't, go ahead and kiss him!
8. Ask?
If you're all about consent, feel free to ask him, "Can I kiss you?" If he's been receptive to the physical closeness, he'll almost certainly say "yes."
9. Try the Tilt
When you go in for your kiss, make sure you're tilting your head the opposite direction that he's tilting so you don't bump noses.
10. Go with It
Once you start smooching, you'll know exactly what to do, and just go with it.
11. Make It Memorable
If you're feeling a bit playful, go ahead and slip the tip of your tongue across the inside of his top lip. So flirty and fun!
12. It's Okay to Laugh
When you think about it, kissing is funny, and if you're feeling like laughing, so ahead! He won't be offended; he might even laugh a little too!
13. When You're Done...
When you feel like the kiss is finished, make eye contact, and smile (if you enjoyed it). If you both want more kissing, feel free... but don't do anything you're not comfortable with!
See? You don't have anything to be nervous about... it's going to be okay. In fact, it's going to be more than okay, it's going to be fun! Once you've kissed, don't forget to tell: share some tips, too!
