We should all have some easy cheap ways to show you care. Everyone wants to have a happy, healthy relationship. Part of achieving that is regularly showing -- not just telling-- the person in your life that you love them. You don’t have to shell out big bucks for expensive gifts to do it, either. Though we would all like to be able to spoil the special people in our lives, it’s not always possible. But more importantly, it’s not always necessary. There is an endless list of small, inexpensive things you can do to show the love in your life that you care. Here are my top five, favorite easy cheap ways to show you care.
A love letter is one of the best easy cheap ways to show you care. In our technology-obsessed world, love letters are a dying art form, but they don’t have to be. You can do your part to resurrect this intimate form of communication and show the person you love that you care about them at the same time.
On top of being a welcomed break from the constant sludge of emails, texts, and DMs, receiving a love letter from you will tell your special someone that they are worth your most precious asset: your time. When they open your physical letter, they’ll know that you had to go out, purchase an envelope and stamp --possibly pen and paper -- then actually sit down and craft the perfect message for them. Moreover, the contents of a letter will be more meaningful because there is no backspace button or mail-delivery fail-safe.
Once it’s out in there in the hands of the mail carrier, there is no turning back. Your lover will know that you spent a lot of time crafting the perfect message for them. The best part is that you can make it as sexy or as sentimental as you want it to be.
Everyone wants to feel like they matter at the end of the day. Life, especially when you’re young, can become so hectic that we sometimes forgo personal bonding in order to keep up with its demands. A great way to show the person that you love them is to just be present. It will show them that, even though your life is just as busy as theirs, their personal journey is just as important to you as your own.
It’s not hard to do either. All you have to do is set aside a little time each week, or even a small moment every day to just to make yourself available to only their needs. Maybe they need to vent. Maybe they just want to share some good news with you. During those moments, make sure to make eye contact. Give them your undivided attention, and let them know that the things that matter to them, matter to you as well. Let them know that your ears and heart are wide open, ready to receive whatever they have to give it.
Dreams are fragile little things. Only a very small percentage of people end up being able to pursue their dreams professionally. Most people’s dreams never amount to more than a side hobby (not that there's anything wrong with that). In order for their dreams to survive, they must retain that deep, burning passion that drew them to it in the first place. But sometimes it can be tiring to constantly find the energy to spend time on something that’s seemingly going nowhere.
That’s why it’s essential that you show enthusiastic support for your partner’s dreams, even if they seem silly to you. Showing interest in their passions will motivate them to keep going. At the stage of life where serious relationships occur, familial support is probably not as prevalent, so you might be the only thing keeping your partner from giving up something they love. Show up and show out for them.
Gone are the days of creating personalized cassette tapes or CDs, but you can still create playlists for the one you love. Just imagine sending your partner a link to a playlist full of their favorite songs, curated specifically by you. Or, even better, songs that soundtrack important milestones over the course of your relationship. No matter what they’re doing at that moment, I guarantee it’ll put a smile on their face.
The best part is that it costs absolutely nothing, other than a few minutes of your time. With all of the streaming services out there, you have your pick of the lot when it comes to the medium you choose to create your playlist. I’m personally a Spotify girl, but you can use Apple Music or Tidal, or even Youtube. The service you choose doesn’t really matter. In this case, it’ll definitely be the thought that you put into creating the playlist that will count.
Do you remember when you were young? After a long, hard day at school, the only thing you wanted to do was to come home to your mom’s cooking. It was just something about a meal, made to your preferences, by someone you loved dearly that could feed your soul (and your belly too) like no other. No matter how old we get, we never lose that desire. Adulthood takes mom’s special dinners out of our immediate reach, which is why you taking on that role would be a great surprise for your partner. You don’t even have to cook for them every day, (unless, of course, you want to) you can just make them a special meal every now and again that reminds them of home and simpler times.
Now, if you know that your cooking skills are subpar, maybe skip this step. Giving your partner food poisoning will not help your relationship. But if you know that you can throw down in the kitchen, set a date aside, dust off your apron, and get to cooking.
