1. White Lie
This is one of the easiest ways to get out of a date gracefully. We all strive to be as honest in our lives as possible, but if the occasion calls for a little white lie, then go ahead and tell it! It’s not going to damage your date’s life if he thinks your non-existent sister has an emergency at home, it’s just a way to shut all of this down without intentionally hurting anyone’s feelings! Just because you don’t connect with the guy, it doesn’t mean that you have to drag him right there in a restaurant with the cold hard truth.
2. Fake Illness
It’s an oldie but a goodie! There are plenty of different illnesses that you can fake to get out of a date, but something we have always found particularly effective, even going back to getting out of gym lessons at school, is to ever so subtly bring up ‘lady problems’! If you make a hint towards having really bad period cramps or something of that nature, then he won’t be able to get you out of that date fast enough! Single guys are completely mystified by periods, so they won’t be questioning the authenticity of your claims!

3. Self Focus
If you went on a first date that you hated and he is asking you for a second, then bring out the line that you are just looking to focus on yourself right now and find some independence in being alone for a little bit. Hopefully, a guy can respect something like that, and he won’t give you a hard time for backing out of another date night with him.
4. Bring up Your Ex
Even if you are totally moved on from him, you can always bring your ex up as a last resort! You can ‘confess’ that you are still not over your previous relationship, and that perhaps it is best to sort out your own feelings before you decide to move on with anyone else.
5. Be Direct
Listen, some guys just can’t take a hint and won’t know what you are getting at until you come right out with it! They are all big boys, and they can handle the truth. What is important is that you aren’t mean about it, just tell them, with a kind smile, that this isn’t working out.
