If you've been dating your significant other for a while now--or even if it's been just a few weeks--once the holidays roll around, there are some things you need to be aware of to decide if he's a keeper or not! With all the chaos of family gathers, stressed out relatives, and gifts to buy, the holidays are the perfect time to see who Bae really is, stress and all! Below are some things to observe during this magical season. ππ½β¨β¨
Even if you and your significant other have only been together a short time, gifts around the holidays are to be expected. If you're unsure about an exchange of gifts between you two, float the idea and feel where he's at! If he seems uninterested while you're planning away the perfect gift, then that's a red flag!
No, I don't mean an elaborate expensive gift; however, a gift from your significant other should be thoughtful and meaningful! Gift cards are awesome but devoid of meaning coming from a boyfriend/girlfriend. So, while we should all be grateful for any gift that comes our way, take notice of what your boyfriend actually gets you and if it's just generic or reveals that he knows what you like and appreciate!
Another thing to observe is how your S.O. responds/reacts to the gift you give. Are they genuinely appreciative or does their face give away annoyance and disappointment? No one wants to be with a greedy person. π¬
One of the most important indicators of a love worth keeping around, is how they act around your family! They should be genuinely interested in interacting with your family and getting to know them. He shouldn't be cold and indifferent (even if he feels uncomfortable), because you're his number 1! If he ignores your family, it's time to say bye. ππΌ
Watch closely when you are around your love and his parents. Does he treat them with respect and kindness? If he's rude, brash or disrespectful, it's time to let the relationship go. That's a clear indicator of how he'll eventually treat YOU!
Holidays are a busy time and sometimes require a lot of travel. If you both have separate travel plans, take note if your significant other makes time with you before needing to leave to see family. If time with you is a huge priority, he's a keeper!
January signifies a lot of things, one of them being breakups. January is a time to start fresh and it also comes after the holiday season, in which people wait to break off relationships so as not to seem like a total jerk. So if your S.O. acts distant come January, it may be a sign of where things are headed.
The holidays really do bring out the real side of people. We tend to be relaxed and our true selves in front of family and it's honestly really hard to fake that, even in front of your love interest! If your significant other passes these tests, you're on your way to a happy, and hopefully lasting, relationship!
