1. When You Need to Keep Your Relationship Fresh

If you are in a long term relationship, you often know how your partner is going to react to a certain thing or what they are going to say. In order to keep your relationship fresh, you should try to pursue your own interests so you can become a better partner. You can start a new hobby, try a new weekend activity or meet some new friends. Focus on your personal growth every now and then because if you do the same things over and over again, you might become bored with your relationship.

2. When You Need to Create Your Own Space

In order to keep your identity, you should try to create some space and privacy for yourself. Make sure that you don’t neglect your responsibilities as a partner though.Try to have a space where you can pursue the things that interest you without disturbing the one you love.

3. When You Need to Keep Your Identity

Erich Fromm said that “In love the paradox occurs that two beings become one and yet remain two.”. It’s wonderful having shared interests with your partner but if you want your relationship to thrive, make sure that you don’t spend every single moment together. Think about doing something that you enjoy and then coming back and telling all about it to your partner.

4. When Your Relationship Needs to Grow

Every relationship needs to grow. You need to learn how to be more patient and to accept the fact that you and your partner can have different opinions on certain things. You also need to learn from the conflicts you have and you need to see them as an opportunity for growth and this is a much easier thing to do when you are independent.

If you're looking to engage your partner in intriguing conversations, why not try some hypothetical questions for couples? These fun queries will not only keep the conversation lively but also stimulate deep thoughts and potentially reveal insights about each other's personality and thought processes.

5. When You Need to Recharge Emotionally

In order to be in charge of your emotions, of your feelings and of your thoughts, you need to be less codependent when you are in a relationship. By being more independent, both you and your partner will be able to take some time to recharge your batteries and the time you’ll spend together will be more enjoyable.

6. When You Need to Be More Flexible

If you have a job that requires you to travel a lot, being more flexible and more independent in your relationship will help you and your partner be happier together. Try to compromise so that you’ll avoid any potential conflicts, especially if you or your partner don’t like being left alone for long periods of time.

7. When You Need to Spend Time with Your Friends

If you are in a relationship, try not to neglect your friends or family. Maintain your independence and surround yourself with the people you love because they will help you remain grounded. They will ensure that you don’t drift too far away from your true self and your relationship will benefit from this too.

Among the benefits that independence brings in a relationship is the fact that you will be able to maintain your own identity, you will add a new level of interest to your relationship and you will help keep things fresh.
