I'm always looking for new quotes on love to add to my master list. Depending on who you ask, you will get different interpretations of what love really is. It's usually shown to us as a feeling that gives butterflies and temporary madness. I believe love is an action, you show it to others. I've had butterflies too, that can come with it. It's just not how I have come to understand it primarily. Here's a list of some of my latest favorite quotes on love.
Bob wrote tons of songs on love so it's only appropriate to have him on this list of quotes on love. "He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you."
"The only thing we never get enough of is love; and the only thing we never give enough of is love." I actually came across this quote from Henry Miller while I was studying English in college and it stuck with me.
"You know you’re in love when you don’t want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." Pretty much everything Dr. Seuss is worth quoting, he is a well of wisdom!
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." It's a lot to live up to, isn't it? But it is such a beautiful description of love.
“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” I hope you have experienced this at least once in your lifetime, and hopefully you still have a friend like this. I have a few friends that fit this description, and I feel so safe around them because I know that I can tell them anything.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” I absolutely love this quote from MLK, don't you? He truly walked the path of love during his lifetime.
"We accept the love we think we deserve.” Oh, I so loved this movie. Did you see it? This quote really stuck with me because when I think back on my life about the different types of "love" I've experienced it's so true.
“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.” My husband told me when we first started dating that everyone is a little crazy and it's just finding someone who is the same type of crazy you are.
It’s the quirks and the idiosyncrasies that make our journey through life so unique. Embracing each other’s peculiarities not only breeds acceptance but also fosters a deeper connection. Love, in essence, becomes a celebration of these oddities that we intertwine with another’s. It’s that effortless fusion of weirdness that blossoms into the warmest embrace, reassuring us that in the vast tapestry of human complexity, we’ve found our matching thread. So here’s to finding that person who doesn’t just tolerate your crazy, but gets it, matches it, and maybe even raises it—that’s the magic.
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.” This quote is so encouraging.
“True love is rare, and it's the only thing that gives life real meaning.” I'm sure you could argue with this quote but I think that love definitely gives life real meaning. Can you think of something else that does as well?
“Who, being loved, is poor?” Oscar Wilde is so witty, are you familiar with him? I love this quote because I've seen this so many times. I've worked with people that many would consider less fortunate in life and they have so much joy in their lives. They didn't seem to think they were missing anything because they had true love in their families and communities.
“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.” Great advice, Fyodor!
“I do not trust people who don't love themselves and yet tell me, 'I love you.' There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”
"I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love." She is the Queen of Love Quotes for me. It took me a really long time to understand what she meant by this. It didn't seem possible. Have you experienced this before in love?
“Where there is great love, there are always miracles.” Whether you believe in physical miracles or not, I think this quote can inspire you. A miracle could be as simple as restoration in your relationship with your parents because you choose to love them as they are.
“There is always something left to love.” No kidding, Gabriel! I read another quote by Princess Diana that said the greatest poverty isn't lack of food, it's lack of love. There is always someone around you who could use a kind word or more.
“Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself.” This makes a lot of sense to me. I think we can apply this to many things. If you are open to love then you are in the position to receive it.
"A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love." I know many men (and women) who have tried but they tend to be miserable. We all need love to be healthy.
"The best proof of love is trust." I'd have to agree that trust is a HUGE part of love. This is something I really have had to grow in. I would throw up walls to protect myself because of previous pain, but slowly I have realized that there are people I can trust in this world. As a result, love always blossoms.
"Love isn't something you find. Love is something that finds you." I found this quote to be really interesting because it seems to be opposite of what I've been told most of my life. But the strange thing is that I met my husband when I finally stopped looking. I've heard this same story so many times with other people.
"Love is the beauty of the soul." This has become my favorite quote right now. I think it's a really unique way to describe beauty; it's honest. I'm sure you have met someone who seems to radiate beauty from the inside out. I'm guessing they have love in their hearts.
Do you have any favorite quotes on love that you turn to for inspiration or encouragement? I'd love to read it. Love is real.
