Ok ladies, for those of you who are still single, listen up. Since you're a totally hot babe, you're going to get asked out. And when you do, there are some first date dos and don'ts that you'll want to follow. These are tips I picked up over the years in my quest for Mr. Right. And now that I'm a married lady, I want to pass on what I've learned, because you deserve the best love life possible!
I know it's fun to dress up for a date. And you should! But wear the most comfortable shoes possible. I say this because you never know when you might be on a date with a psycho. And if it turns out that you need to run away, you want to do so without getting your heel stuck in the sidewalk.
We all know that guys have sex on the brain. Like, all the time. And on a first date, you want the guy to get to know YOU, not get distracted by your bodacious bod. It's ok to show a little bit of skin, but leave most of it to the imagination. The mystery will make the guy want to see you again.
Another safety tip: if you drive separate from your date, be sure you park somewhere that has some foot traffic, where other people are around. Don't park in a, isolated, dark corner. I don't tell you this to scare you, but to make sure you're aware that crazy people sometimes lurk in those dark, isolated places. Just be aware and alert when going to your car. (Hopefully your date will walk you to your car anyway.)
I'm one who still believes in tradition and chivalry, which means my expectation on a first date would be that the guy would pay. However, in our progressive world, more and more women are trying to assert their independence by taking on the same duties as men in the world of dating, and men are taking note. If the guy is a gentleman, he will pay. Just prepared to fork out your share of the bill.
You never know when you might need to call a cab, or pay for parking, or have cash available for another unexpected situation. All you need is $20 to carry in your purse. Having some "just in case" cash is always a good idea. I'm sure dad would agree.
I don't care how much fun you had on your date. I don't care how much you ache to talk to the guy again right away. Do not ever make the first move after the date. Even with the growth of aggressive women, a man's natural instinct is to be a predator. And if the guy truly likes you, he WILL make a move. If you don't hear from him, it means he wasn't digging you, and that's ok. Some other lucky guy will sweep you off your feet!
I know how tempting it can be to jump into bed with a guy on the first date. But don't do it! In fact, make him wait as long as possible. The longer he has to wait, the more he will value you. It isn't worth risking your heart for some temporary pleasure. Give him a taste of what's to come by kissing him (if you choose), but don't give it all away until you know he respects you.
I spent many, many years getting rejected and misled and confused by guys I was dating. And when I finally met "the one," I knew he was it because everything happened naturally and I didn't have to question it. Your next first date could very well be your LAST first date- so make the most of it by following these tips. Are you ready to show those boys what you're made of?
