How to Handle a Breakup like a Pro ...

Here’s the thing, breaking up with someone is horrible, and even when it goes as amicably as it possibly could, there are still the chances of conflicts arising in the future, or over the things that you might least expect. The only thing both of you can try to do in this situation is be as mature and sensible as possible. The less stress you go through during a split, the better chance you have of moving on quickly. Here are some tips for how to handle a breakup like a pro!

1 Don’t Ghost

At all costs, you need to resist the urge to ghost them, even if you think it will be an easier option. Nobody deserves to be completely left in the dark about what and why, so be mature and lay it all out for them to help them see why is isn’t working anymore. It can help both of you to get better closure.

Frequently asked questions

2 Legitimate Reasons

The more specific you can be with your reasons for breaking up, the better the closure can be. Try to avoid saying things like “it’s not you, it’s me” and “I just need some space”, because they aren’t real reasons, they are just weightless words that people use for breakups in the movies.

3 Keep Receipts

If your partner asks you for feedback and wants to know exactly why you are breaking up, then make sure you have the examples to show your point. Sometimes guys simply won’t accept or believe something until you put the proof right in front of them.

4 Embrace the Hurt

Don’t try to pretend like you are completely fine when you are not. It is much healthier to allow yourself to feel like crap in the immediate aftermath of a breakup than to push those feelings down, because they will only pop back up later in a worse way.

5 Set a Time Limit

Be strict with yourself and set a time limit for how long you are allowed to wallow and feel sorry for yourself. We could all stay heartbroken forever if we chose to, but at some point you have to pick yourself up and start all over again!

6 Glow up

Don’t partake in a glow up to try to make your ex jealous, do it instead to make yourself feel better and improve your own confidence. It can be the physical representation of a new page and chapter in your life.

This is a topic I don't usually write about but I have a dear friend who is going through a hard breakup and wanted to know how to best advise her. Chin up Suze :)
