The Bright Side of Being Dumped ...

By Neecey

I can hear you snort with derision. How can there possibly be anything good in being dumped? The first thing most girls do on being chucked (is that just a British expression?) is fall into a fit of despair. But life is about ying and yang so to everything dark, there is something light. Trust me when I say therefore, there is a bright side of being dumped.

Table of contents:

  1. it can make you realize
  2. no more annoying habits!
  3. fewer obligations
  4. freedom
  5. plenty more fish!
  6. now you can get a pet!
  7. lessons learned

  9. your future is ahead of you now
  10. no more compromising!

1 It Can Make You Realize

One of the ways how being dumped is good for you is that it can help you to realize that even if you thought you were happy, there was obviously something wrong and you are better off out of it and making a fresh start. Nobody gets dumped when everything is completely perfect, so take some time to think about what went wrong and you can turn it into a learning exercise for next time around.

2 No More Annoying Habits!

All of those little things that added up to really annoy you about your partner? Well you don’t have to worry about hiding your true feelings anymore! It might not have felt like it at the time, but suppressing your feelings about these annoyances can really have a negative impact on your day to day life. Now that you don’t have to contend with them anymore, you will start to feel a great sense of freedom and contentment that you never realized you missed.

3 Fewer Obligations

Now that you are single again, you can get back to spending some time and focusing just on yourself. A relationship brings with it many different obligations on your partner’s side, from going to events with his family to extra stress at birthdays and Christmas time. Now that these obligations are gone, you can get back to focusing on your own life for a little bit; it can have an almost meditative and therapeutic effect.

4 Freedom

Being single opens up a whole new world of freedoms that you might not have been able to enjoy whilst in a relationship. Whether it’s going out with your girlfriends without having to ask permission, booking a holiday to whichever destination you want without having to compromise or simple things like choosing what take out to order, now that you only have yourself to decide with, you can do what you want!

5 Plenty More Fish!

Now that you are back on the market and potentially available for a new romance, you will be delighted at the variety of different guys out there who would love to date you - you’re a catch! Being in a relationship, especially a long term one, can make you forget how fun it is to be out there in the midst of the dating game, so get back in to the swing of it and have fun!

6 Now You Can Get a Pet!

This might be the ultimate silver lining for any animal lover whose boyfriend did not feel the same way. Now that you’re single, there is absolutely nothing to stop you from heading to the shelter and giving a forever home to the cat or dog that you have always wanted. Not only will they get a fabulous new life, but they can also give you some of the comfort that you might need.

7 Lessons Learned

Each break up that you go through teaches you something new about yourself. You need to take the pain and emotion that you are feeling and channel it in to learning life lessons that can prepare you for the next time around. Hopefully this experience will mean that you don’t have to ever feel the same way again.

8 Save Money

Maybe you were paying his bills or spending more money on groceries, now you don't have to which means you can save money since he's gone.

9 Your Future is Ahead of You Now

Maybe you put off going to school because it meant less time with him, or maybe it meant moving away; whatever the reasons you now have your whole future ahead of you and you can do whatever you dreamed of doing!

10 No More Compromising!

No more sharing the remote, having to consider someone else when cooking or picking a restaurant for dinner, you get to do whatever you want whenever you want without having to compromise. That in itself is a huge relief!

Although it might seem like the end of the world, it really isn’t. See a break up as a chance to learn and grow.

Are you good at handling break ups or do you fall apart?
