1. There’s a Lot of Miscommunication

Many times, men and women interpret things completely differently. Miscommunication can be the source of many disagreements in a relationship. It’s very possible to think your boyfriend means something different than what he actually does mean. Taking things personally in a relationship is often the result of miscommunication. If you think you might be misunderstanding something your guy is saying, tell him the way you interpreted his words and see if your thoughts are correct.

2. He Says He Means Something else

Many times, a guy will come right out and say that he meant something totally different than what you thought he meant. If he’s doing this, you may be taking things personally that you shouldn’t. It’s actually a good thing if your guy speaks up. It’s great if he can offer clarification. This can save you from feeling hurt.

3. It’s an Unrelated Incident

Sometimes women feel like everything is personal in a relationship. Maybe your boyfriend is planning to go shoot some hoops or have a poker night with the guys and it feels personal. You may feel he’s doing those things because he doesn’t want to be with you. This isn’t true in most cases. Most of the time it’s unrelated; he just wants to do something he enjoys.

4. Your Friends See Things Differently

It’s good to talk to friends that’re open-minded. Many times they see things differently than you do. They may be able to see that you’re taking things too personally in your relationship. It’s wonderful to have wise friends that can see this. They can help you to have a more balanced view.

If you're looking to engage your partner in intriguing conversations, why not try some hypothetical questions for couples? These fun queries will not only keep the conversation lively but also stimulate deep thoughts and potentially reveal insights about each other's personality and thought processes.

5. Your Ideas Seem like a Stretch

Sometimes your ideas seem like a stretch when you take things personally, even to you. There’s usually a small part of you that’s whispering that it probably isn’t personal. It’s good to recognize that not everything your partner does is directed toward you. It may just be that he has different interests or different opinions to you. It’s healthy to realize you’ll always be two separate individuals even though you’re a couple.

6. He Tells You It Isn’t Personal

Your guy may tell you that you’re taking things too personally. He can easily see that because he knows what he meant. This is a very clear sign you take things too personally. The good thing about this is that you realize your relationship has a lot fewer issues than you thought it did. Once you see that you were taking things too personally, your relationship begins to look and feel a lot happier.

7. You Tend to Think Emotionally

While this isn’t true of all women, a lot of women think more with their emotions than with logic. You may listen to your heart more than your head. I’ve been there before. If you can make the switch in your mind and think logically, you’ll probably see that your guy’s actions probably aren’t personal. This can make you feel much more hopeful about your relationship.
