We may know love as family love or romantic love, but how many different types of love are really out there? The google definition of love is: an intense feeling of deep affection. Some say that love is what makes the world go round, it's something that we as people crave and strive for. For something so important and central to our lives, we don't know much about it. So let's get educated on several different types of love!
Infatuation is different from other types of love because it is mainly based upon fantasy and idealization. It is before two people get to know each other but once they do, the infatuation usually goes away. This type of love may be similar to our celebrity crushes. We don't know much about them so our love for them is solely based on what we make them to be!
Eros is a Greek term for love and it represents the love that involves sexual feelings for your love interest. Eros love is usually passionate and intense and it occurs during the early stages of a romantic relationship. The only weakness of this type of love is that a relationship solely based on eros love might solely rely on physical contact and no other connection.
3. Soulmate Love
Not everyone believes in soulmate love, but it is a very romantic concept. Soulmate love is the type of love that has survived through multiple lifetimes. That way two people are eternally bound together to not only one life but all of their lives. They might not know it but they will always find each other in the end!
4. Tough Love
We are probably all familiar with tough love. It is a term used to describe a love that is expressed by setting boundaries for the good of the other person. It might cause tension between two people, but it is one way to show that you care. Tough love is most commonly experienced by parents as they set boundaries and rules for the good of their children, because after all, parents just want to protect their children.
5. Maternal Love
Maternal love is the type of love that you most often experience from your mother. It is often protective, accepting and nurturing. However, maternal love can also come from fathers who tend to fill the spot of both a mother and a father.
6. Paternal Love
Just like maternal love, there is also paternal love that involves guidance and authority. Although it seems like these types of love pertain to only one gender, it is not always gender specific. It all depends on your family dynamic and the personality of both parents.
7. Puppy Love
Puppy love is what we describe as a childhood crush on someone that you might not know well. This type of love is very innocent and pure. It is most often seen in young children and first crushes. This is the type of love that everyone is most likely to experience during their early years of childhood and remember it forever.
8. Romantic Love
Romantic love is the most common type of love that we are all familiar with. It is the type of love that you share with your partner. You feel passion, attraction, and respect for each other. This is the type of love that most of us hope to find during the middle stage of our lives!
9. Self Love
This is probably the most important type of love that everyone should experience every single day. Before getting the chance to experience any other type of love, you have to be able to love yourself as a person. Self love is the positive feelings that you have about yourself. It is expressed by protecting yourself from harm, treating yourself well, making yourself happy and making sure others treat you well in return.
