Online dating is one hot topic in the world right now, but before you jump in head first, I’d like to give you a head's up on some types of guys you’ll meet when you start online dating. My mom actually met my stepdad through an online website, and he’s one of the best people I’ve ever known in my life. They’ve been together for almost 5 years now, and though he’ll never be my dad, I’m grateful my mom didn’t meet any creeps out there! Through her experience, I learned a lot about different types of guys you’ll meet on online dating websites. I also know people through former jobs that have dated people online, and there were always the same kinds of guys, no matter what website the online dating service involved. If you’ve got the guts to try online dating, good for you! Just be sure to have a head's up on the kinds of guys you’ll meet online so you can get to the right one much more quickly!
1. The Profile Pro
One of the most popular types of guys you’ll meet on dating sites is the one who really spiffs up his profile. It will look like he spent as much time doing it as he hopefully spent on a resume, and might even sound like something out of a dating ad in a newspaper. This guy may be a good guy, but he could also be the kind who just wants to put on a good front to hide other things about himself. If his profile sounds like he’s selling a car instead of telling you about himself, think twice before seeking him out first.
2. The Long Distance Guy
Many men on online dating websites will hesitate to tell women where they live, because they live far away in another state, or they want to maintain a long distance relationship. If you can’t meet him in person, don’t date him! Who knows what other women he’s pulling this off with too, or even if his picture is really him! Creeeepppy!! Some guys just like the idea of having online flings. For some reason, it excites them, so be sure you meet a guy before you commit to dating him.
3. The Single Dad
I don’t think there is a thing wrong with single dads being on online dating websites. In fact, it can be one of the best and most intelligent ways to meet women without hanging out at clubs and bars all the time. The key here is to know whether the guy is a dad or not so you can make the best decision for you. Also make sure they're not just seeking a woman to take care of their kids, but to also spend a life with. If you see pictures of him with kids, be sure to ask if he's a dad. Also, give him a head's up not to put his kids’ pictures online. This is the Internet after all!
4. The Comedian
This guy is the man who reminds you of late night talk show hosts. You know what I mean, right? He’ll make jokes to start conversations or act like he’s the center of attention. He might also go over the top during conversations trying to impress you, etc. He might even be difficult to pinpoint if he’s always joking around and never says how he feels.
5. The Ladies’ Man
This is the kind of guy that calls you “sweetie,” “baby,” etc. after first meeting you. He’s used to using charm to lure women in, and it is no different doing it online than in person. If he can’t call you by your first name, or worse, calls you by another woman’s name, it’s time to click him right out of your life, honey!
6. The Pushover
The pushover kind of guy is the one who thinks you’re committed and expects too much of you after one or two dates. Or, worse, he hasn’t even met you and expects you to be exclusive. He might send you flowers, texts non-stop, call you all the time, etc. Or, your email inbox may be flooded, or worse, your social media profile covered in messages from someone that you only met once or twice online, or went on a date with once. Yikes! Never friend a guy on Facebook until you’re sure he’s safe to allow into your social media life.
7. The Corporate Guy
While we all love a guy that is going to be into his corporate work, do you really want a workaholic guy? Do you think that getting important phone calls in the middle of your date is sexy? What happens later on down the line? would he ever call out if your kid was sick -- or if you were sick? Think about this one girls!
8. The Outdoorsy Guy
This is the guy that loves everything to do with the outdoors. His hobbies include everything from fishing all the way to camping and he may even be into hunting. If you are an outdoorsy girl, this is your perfect match!
9. The Divorced Guy
While being divorced is not bad in any way, there is lingering baggage here, especially if he does have kids. You've got to keep in mind that he has this baggage and it might interfere with your relationship sometimes -- keep that in mind!
This is the guy that is super lonely and still single -- but he is deployed. If you are passionate about the military, this is a match for you. This match can come with the challenges of not seeing each other a whole lot and that it is dangerous wherever he is.
11. Your Ex
Have you ever been online, going through random profiles and you see your ex? And you see that you should be matched up with him? How awkward is that! This is a warning sign for whatever dating website you are on -- it might not be the best!
12. The Gamer
The gamer guy is the another type that you'll find on dating websites. This is the guy that loves Call of Duty, the guy that absolutely adores anything that has to do with gaming.
13. The Right One
Finally! This guy will be the kind one, the courteous one and the "normal" one. He'll be the one that allows you to move into the relationship in your own comfort zone, doesn’t make it difficult for you to talk to him, and one that will make sure he’s respectful of you. He will call you by your name, open the door for you, ask to be a part of your life, and be kind to your family. He won’t lie to you, won’t make you doubt him, and most importantly, once you’re exclusive, he’ll take down his online dating profiles and cancel the services!
Dating online seems a little too scary for me, but I know many people who met their mates this way and are incredibly happy and have been for years. What used to seem like the weird thing to do is actually becoming the norm in today’s high tech society. I guess I’m a little old-fashioned, but oh well! Have you ever dated someone through an online dating service? Please do share your experiences if you dare!
